This trip was not planned far in advance like my usual trips are.

I was having a tough time and wanted to get away from everything so I had a look on Ryanair to find the cheapest destination that I could.

Vienna was the destination and I booked it (it was only a few days in advance too).

I still didn’t feel overly good even though I had a flight booked. It wasn’t a “so looking forward to it” trip. I found the cheapest hostel I could and just booked that and then booked the transfers to/from the airport.

I still had 2-night shifts to do before it came time for departure.

It was an uneventful trip to the airport (as usual) and I gave myself about 3 hours. I finished work and had a few hours of sleep before I needed to leave.

I got to the airport and chilled. I wish I had gone to the spot I usually do as this is where the flight left. I could have done some runway watching.

I had a row to myself. It was a little bit iffy before we departed. Some lady wanted to sit in an exit row seat, and the woman at the window started complaining because she wanted the aisle seat and didn’t want to sit at the window as the cabin crew told her. I was fully expecting a punch-up. Shame it didn’t happen. It might’ve made me a little bit happier. Ha.

I got to immigration in Vienna and it took about 40 minutes to get through. Once through I headed straight to the train station to get to the hostel.

It was cold so I didn’t hang around. I got to the stop near the hostel and went straight there to check in and get ready for bed. I wanted to be able to do as much as possible tomorrow and wanted to also get some good sleep.

Tuesday was the only full day I had in Vienna and I wanted to maximise it (and also to try and pull myself out of the funk I was in). I got up early and then headed out.

I wanted to go see St Stephen’s Cathedral and also walk around the city. It started off really cold. It was -7 the whole day. I am so glad I had a jacket and gloves with me. My hands were freezing.

I went to the cathedral and wanted to go up to the roof for the views. I had to go back out as they only took cash. It worked out well as I needed to get some Euros for an upcoming trip.

I went back and went to the top. The views were stunning. The only thing I was sad about was that it had a fence all the way round and I couldn’t get a panorama.

I was up there for about 30 minutes and then headed back down to have a walk around. I needed to powder my nose and I found a hotel where I didn’t have to ask to use the toilet. I got done here and went to the city park and found statues of Strauss and Lehar. As I was walking in, I rolled my ankle. I didn’t fall but it would have been funny if I did as there were plenty of people around to see.

I did my walking around and picture-taking here and then headed to the tram and sat on the tram until I found somewhere I wanted to see. I did that and did that for most of the rest of the day. It was so cold. I had to do that so I didn’t get sick.

I got back on the tram and came across a church that I wanted to see. It was the Votive church. It was pretty nice. Some cool stained glass windows too.

I then got back on the tram and ended up in a suburb called Grinzing. The end tram stop was in a quaint little area. I had a walk around and then headed back on the tram and went to the area of St Charles’ Church. I was wanting to go inside but they wanted to charge €9 for entry. No thanks. I then just walked around and got some pics there.

I headed back towards the hostel so I could get some food and drink and I wanted to have an early night so I could do a walking tour before I had to head to the airport.

An early night wasn’t on the cards. Someone checked into the room and they played music and were on their laptop until around 01:00. I swore at them several times under my breath. I think I got to sleep around 02:30.

Below are some pics from today

As I didn’t get good sleep last night (thanks stupid, idiotic, moronic guest) I cancelled the walking tour and slept until 30 minutes before I needed to check out.

I went to the area of the train station I needed and headed upstairs to find some food and have a walk around. I walked around for about 20 minutes and then just headed back to the train station to wait for the train. It took me 20 minutes to find where I needed to validate my train ticket.

I got the train to the airport and just hung around until it was time for the flight. I couldn’t be bothered to do anything.

I got on the flight and I was glad I had a window seat. I wanted to just lean against it and sleep. I think I did sleep.

I got back to Stansted and was craving BK. I went and got a burger only and I felt robbed. It was £9.45 just for a burger.

We actually landed 40 minutes ahead of schedule which gave me enough time to get some food and a drink and head to the train platform. I had about 25 minutes before the train left. I was hoping to catch the guard so I could ask if I could go on his train otherwise it would have meant a two-hour wait for the next one.

I was glad when the guard arrived as I knew he would help me. He did before back in June when I came back from Gdansk.

He let me get on his train and I was so happy he did.

I got home and then just went to bed as I was working the next day.

Vienna was a good trip and it was good to get away. I would go back again and I would want a longer amount of time.
