So, the next exercise in the book requires me to look at the mood chart for the week that I monitored it and also the times that I have posted before. I have to decide what alternate behaviours I want to do during those times. I am going to alternate the times every day.

I have to make a written contract (I know) to say that I will do the behaviours. Doing this apparently means I will actually do it.

My contract

As an experiment, I will do chores from 09:00 – 10:00 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday and walk from 13:00 – 14:00 on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. My aim of this is to see whether these activities will affect my mood.

There are 3 things that I need to focus on when changing the behaviour. These are:

  • Become as fully involved as possible in the activity
  • Avoid evaluating the outcome of the activity
  • Try the experiment more than once. 3 times is recommended before drawing any conclusions

A fascinating thing this activity suggests is to “not argue with the devil on the shoulder”. It suggests that I ignore it and continue on with the activity – which is what I shall try my hardest to do.
