Thankfully today I could lie in knowing that I didn’t have to get an early bus or train to get from Trieste to Ljubljana. I can’t tell you how good that feeling was. I just took my sweet time showering and getting the rest of my stuff packed up.

When I was ready to leave it was raining so I decided that I would just sit downstairs in the seating area waiting for it to stop. I was here for about an hour. Once it had stopped, I headed to get some croissants and a drink and just decided to head to the bus station to wait for the coach.

There was quite a few people waiting for this one and I was stupidly hopeful for it being the empty coach I could see parked up. It was not to be. The coach was busy but luckily I had a window seat at the back. I was preparing myself for some awesome views like I had yesterday (on the way to Rijeka). I was on the wrong side of the coach for the pictures of Trieste from on the mountains though. All good. The views were still amazing nonetheless.

It was an uneventful trip to Ljubljana but I still didn’t sleep even though I was tired! I think part of it was the apprehension of the hostel and the bed bug issue they have been having. I messaged people in the hostel and they assured me that they had been dealt with. I was glad they said this as I felt less stressed on the journey here.

  • I got here and picked up my tickets for my bus journey to Lake Bled on Friday so I didn’t have to worry about it. I don’t need the stress.

I had a quick look at the map to see where the hostel was and the direction I needed to go in. It was a pretty straightforward route with just a couple of turns and it was easy enough to find.

The one thing I didn’t anticipate was that the hostel was on the top floor of an old building. It didn’t specify this in the brochure like. I was only concerned because I had a heavy case. I don’t usually travel with a case and only a backpack and now I have both and a shopping bag, Curse me and my need to constantly buy food and drink. It makes it heavy to travel.

I climbed the stairs and found my bed and just set my stuff down and relaxed. There was nobody here for check-in as the hours they work are only about 4 a day. I mean, who runs a hostel this way!

It was nice to just set my stuff down and relax. I said to Ken that I would spend my time here just relaxing after all the walking I did in Trieste.

It didn’t last long though. I put my stuff away and then just headed out to have a walk around and find some souvenirs. I did exactly that. The city is small so I may run out of things to do here. I decided because of that I would head to the supermarket and get some food and bring it back to the hostel and just have a relaxing evening.

Not long after I was here, the hostel owner came by and then did my check-in and allowed me to do some laundry. I didn’t have enough space to bring enough for the entire trip so it was good I had somewhere to do laundry.

The laundry is now done and is drying and I’m just here watching something on Freevee and it honestly feels good to not have to do anything.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. It’s a walking tour and Andre Rieu concert day. I think I’m just going to try and figure out how to get to the arena and back for the rest of the night.

This was my first time in Ljubljana and I really like it. I really like the scenery here in Slovenia too. The mountains are just amazing. You’ll never be able to sleep if you drive through here during the daylight hours. There is a feast for the eyes everywhere.
