This is the start of my long trip this month. It’s 12 days long. The trip centres around going to an Andre Rieu concert in Ljubljana.

I decided since I couldn’t get a flight direct to Ljubljana from Stansted and not even one from London at a price I wanted to pay, I started to look at the map to see where was close by that I could stay. I decided on Trieste. It was only 90 minutes on the bus from Ljubljana so that worked out well.

I got the early morning coach again from Peterborough to the airport and figured it would be as smooth as Monday where I got through security in about 5 minutes. No such luck this time.

I had a carry-on bag (which I haven’t had in over a year) and I believe this was the start of my troubles. The queue for security was a little longer than I had anticipated for this early in the morning at this time of year.

My bag went through and was sent off for extra screening. I waited for about 20 minutes and then the security agent said he couldn’t see what had caused it so had to send it through again. As the queue was so long, he had to check another back before mine came off again.

He looked again and said nothing was sticking out as to what caused it to be selected for extra screening. I was getting frustrated as I only had about an hour before the flight left. The guy and his supervisor said it might have to go through a full bag check (which would have taken them about 30 minutes they said). I was super frustrated. They tried a third tray and a third time and luckily it passed.

I had just enough time to get some food and drink and then I went to the gate in time for boarding to start.

The flight was near enough empty and I got a row to myself. I loved it. I slept a little and was woken up when getting ready to land in Trieste. It was a little windy on the way down.

Trieste is a super small airport and there wasn’t a lot of people there.

I found information and asked about public transport to the city. Well, this is where the fun started here in Trieste. The storm from the UK was following me and it had caused all public transport in the city to be stopped so no public transport from the airport and the only way was a taxi costing about €70.

I waited at the airport for 4 hours and the weather finally improved and the public transport started running again.

  • I got to the hostel and checked in and decided to head out whilst the rain held off. I just walked around the city and it was better than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed walking around here.

The wind was crazy though and the seafront was closed off because of it. That didn’t stop me from getting as close as I could. I got some good pics and videos. You can see some of the videos below.

The police were there telling people to move away from the seafront because of how much water was coming over. I really enjoyed watching it though.

I decided to walk around the main streets and then I headed up the hill to the castle area. It was a nice walk up and around the area. I got some great shots over the city.

I decided to walk down and head to the embassy for food. I had some chicken but it still didn’t taste good. I have lost my sense of taste due to Bell’s Palsy and I cannot wait for it to come back. Anyway, I digress.

Once I was done here I decided to take a slow walk back to the hostel so I could get some much-needed sleep.
