Today was the day I left Yerevan for Tbilisi. I had to pinch myself because I was still convinced I wouldn’t make it to Tbilisi. Mind you, I had no choice but to make it because I had no more days booked at the hostel here.

I had to get up early to get a taxi to the bus station to get the minibus. I had the hostel call the company last night to book a seat on the 08:30 minibus for me. I got to the bus station about 15 minutes before the bus left. I paid my 8000 Dram (about £15) and then hopped on the bus. The only seat left was one right at the back next to the window on the left. Luckily it had a window I could open – turns out well for a breeze and pictures.

They crammed the bus full and made sure there were no seats free. I felt so cramped on the bus. It was so hot even though it had supposed AC. The window came in handy for a breeze.

We headed off a few minutes early and I just sat and looked out the window. I was ever hopeful they would make a stop as pretty soon after we left I needed the bathroom. We made one stop for fuel and then after an hour, we made a stop for about 20 minutes for food and bathrooms. On the way to the stop, it was nice to just look out the window and watch the scenery. We went through canyons and up mountains. The scenery was really amazing. It was completely different to where I live here in Peterborough.

We stopped and I got off and emptied myself and got something to drink. I also got stuff out of my bag that I forgot to take out at the bus station. I can’t believe I forgot to take the stuff out that I needed.

In the shop, I asked for Apple Miranda and they gave me 7-Up. I went back and had to use Google Translate to ask for Miranda. It was like a fridge at my seat with all the cold drinks I had. The driver summoned us and we carried on our way. The scenery was equally as nice on the way to the border. I wanted to sleep but my eyes just couldn’t close because of how pretty the drive was. On the way to the border, I saw a wagon with a TLD of .su and I was unsure of what it was. I had to Google it and found out it was for the Soviet Union. I had never seen this before.

We got to the border and we had to get out of the bus so we could cross the border and get our passports checked and stamped. Once we were back on the bus we had to get out again in a couple of minutes as we needed to cross the Georgian border. We had to take our luggage out to have it checked but they never checked it. I was happy as I got 2 stamps in my passport here. The border building here had hardly any AC and it was hot as anything, It was like Satan herself was right behind us.

We got back on the bus and we carried on our merry way and headed back up and down the mountains until we got to Tbilisi.

  • I got off the bus and headed in the direction of where I thought the hostel was. I got about 5 minutes away and realised I had left my phone on the bus. My heart sank. I quickly rushed back and saw the driver and he handed me my phone and shook his head. I was glad he had it though. I took it and then headed back the way I started out,

I managed to find an ATM to get some money to pay for the hostel and I also found a shop to get a SIM card. After I got this, I headed down the hill to cross the river and then up the hill to the hostel. It was so hot and I was so sweaty. I wanted to just get in the room and get some cold air. I checked in and went to the room and cranked the cold air right up so I could cool down.

After I had cooled down, I went out to find something to drink and went for a walk to just get my bearings. I got to Liberty Square and had a look around and then I went to the Metro and got my ticket and went for a ride on it. The metro here is really cheap. It was 2 Lari for a travel card and then 3 Lari for 24 hours of unlimited travel 3 Lari is around £1. Cheap as anything. The metro here is also the same as in Baku and Yerevan and Kyiv.

I came back and found a McDonald’s and had some food and then I walked back to the hostel so I could get some sleep. There were some arguments over the temperature of the room. I liked it at 16 and cold. There were 2 Italian girls and they didn’t like it to be as cold. They wanted it on 27. I told them it was too hot and it wouldn’t be that cold. They turned it up to 25 and after 5 minutes left the room for the night. I turned it right down and headed up to the balcony for the views. They were amazing. After a few minutes, I headed back down to bed. I was so tired and ready for sleep.

Below are some pics from today

Today was the day to head back to Yerevan to get my luggage and repack and head to the airport. I had asked the hostel last night to book me on the bus at 11:00. I wanted to get back to Yerevan at about 17:00 so I could get to the hostel and have about 2 hours to repack and get to the airport.

I went to the meeting point for the bus and waited for the bus to take on people. I got on and got a sight at the back window but this one didn’t open sadly. The driver came on to take our fares. It cost 50 Lari (around £15) for the journey back. We headed out and I decided I would try and sleep on the bus until we got to the border. The air was nice and cold this time. There were also screaming kids on the bus so it didn’t make for a good ride back.

We reached the border and had to get out to cross the Georgian border before getting back on to cross the Armenian border. We had to take our luggage out and it was checked through the scanners. I got 2 more stamps in my passport. Look at me world travelling. Ha.

We got back on the bus and I pretty much slept until we stopped for a rest stop. We got back on and I slept until we reached the bus station in Yerevan. I ordered a GG (think Uber) back to the hostel and I went and gouty luggage and started to repack and chilled for an hour and then called a GG to get me to the airport. It was way cheaper than the transfer inbound that the hostel put on. The inbound transfer from the hostel was 8000 Dram. The GG was 2000 Dram.

I got to the airport and waited for check-in to open. I had to have my documents checked and get a boarding pass printed. Yerevan Airport doesn’t accept mobile boarding passes. I got this and then headed through security and found somewhere to sit and just wait for the gate to open. I was not looking forward to the flight on Wizz Air. It was really weird though. The seats seemed a lot better (even though it was a middle seat) than on the flight out. It was even more weird as it was the same plane both times. I managed to get a couple of hours of sleep before we landed.

We got to Venice and I had to go out of the airport to come back in. I couldn’t find anywhere to get food or drink. I was so tired and hungry and thirsty. I walked around to kill some time before security opened. As soon as it opened, I went through and then found the taps to fill my bottles and then found some food and just sat and chilled until it was time to go through passport control and go to the gate area. I was so glad when we got on the flight and landed back in Gatwick. I was so tired and just wanted to get back home to sleep.

There was a long queue at the airport train station to pick up tickets. It took me about 30 minutes. I still managed to get them in time to get the earlier train back to Peterborough.

I got back home and unpacked and started laundry and it was so nice to know that I still had a couple of days to chill before I started my nightshift.

The entire trip was an awesome trip and I was so glad I finally got to Yerevan and Tbilisi. I can highly recommend going here. Get looking for flights and get them booked and just go! Do it… NOW!!!
