I have wanted to go back to Spain for a while and just never found anywhere that I wanted to go.
I started to look at the flight sites and saw Seville for £50. I booked it straight away and then found a cheap hostel and booked that.
I was telling Ken that I was going and I was trying to tempt him to come along with me. He relented and we booked some tickets for him. Spain has been on his bucket list, so it was a perfect time for him to cross this country off.
We looked for a hotel and found a decently priced hotel close to a metro station. We booked it and then left it at that.
We booked the airport parking because it would be so much easier than taking a train down.
We left Peterborough around 14:00 and made our way to the airport. It was a fairly straightforward run until we got across the QE2 Bridge and the traffic started. It’s a good job we left as early as we did.
We got to the airport and parked up and went through security. It was a breeze for a change. No queues and no extra screening. Result.
I left Ken in duty-free and I went and found some food. I then found him again and we went to Starbucks and just sat there for a couple of hours. The gate was shown and we headed there. For a change, it was close to the departure lounge.
I had a middle seat and someone asked if I would swap the middle for an aisle seat. It was a no-brainer for me and I did it gladly. It was nice to not be in the middle.
The flight was fairly uneventful and we landed in Seville. It was fairly quick to get across the border too – just a quick look at the passport and a stamp and sent on our way. It was so nice.
I tried to order an Uber and it was so expensive. It had gone from €17 to €29. Damn Uber and their pricing.
The driver picked us up and took us to the hotel. I was so glad to be in the hotel and in the cold room. The temperatures were awful at that time too.

So, after getting to the hotel and into bed around 02:00 we got up about 09:00 and left the hotel about 10:00.
I had a quick look at the map and decided we should get the metro to Prado de San Sebastian. It looked to be the most central.
We got off and had a look around and decided we’d head to Starbucks. The walk there was pretty cool. It’s a really picturesque city.
I did a walking tour in Marrakesh and the guide said the architecture was pretty similar to Seville. He wasn’t wrong.
I left Ken to carry on walking to Starbucks and I was happily taking pictures.
I found a souvenir store and picked up a lanyard and some magnets. The guy tried to charge me for 4 magnets and I had to tell him I only had 3.
With that sorted, I headed to Starbucks and enjoyed being in the cooler air. It was so hot already at that point.
We left Starbucks and headed in the direction of the cathedral. I can’t tell you how picturesque the city is. You definitely have to visit!
We tried to find the ticket office so we could get some tickets to go into the cathedral.
I looked at the sign and we headed in the direction I thought the ticket office was. It was a nice walk around. The Giraldo Tower was really cool to see from the street.
We carried on walking round, but we still didn’t find the ticket office. We did go inside part of the cathedral and it was pretty cool too.
We went out and saw some signs pointing to the ticket office. It turns out it was right where we looked to start with. Grrr. Mind you, it was a nice walk around.
We did a detour to an ice cream parlour across the street so Ken could get some ice cream. We also saw a lady doing some Flamenco dancing, so we stopped and watched for a couple of minutes.
We then went to go get the tickets and had our bags checked first.
The tickets were €14 and that got you into the cathedral and then up the Giraldo Tower.
Inside the cathedral is really nice. It was also nice because they had fans going.
We went to the Giraldo Tower and went up it. Lucky for us, it was a ramp up to the top and then some stairs to the outside.
The ramps spiralled round the tower and there were about 35 of them. Then about 15 stairs to the roof. The views were cool but hampered by fencing.
I was starting to feel sick, so I hot-footed it down to the ground level so I could get to the toilet. It felt like it took ages.
I came back upstairs from the toilet and got a message from Ken asking where I was. I went in to find him and then said I wanted to sit by the fan for a bit. I was so hot and it was uncomfortable.
We left the cathedral and then went to find some food. I told Ken there was a tapas place nearby. We went there, but the prices were high. I told him I wanted Burger King.
We went there and I had an issue with my order. It was a pain to try and rectify because we couldn’t communicate. It finally got sorted. We sat in Burger King for about 90 minutes.
We then decided to head to Plaza de España and Maria Luisa Park. Plaza de España was closed because of a festival they’ve got going on.
We found somewhere to sit in the shade for a little bit, too. It was so nice.
We walked around and decided to head back to Starbucks. Our feet were hurting and the heat wasn’t fun. It was 36° at 17:00
We walked around and came across a military building. It was called Capitania General. It was a pretty cool-looking building.
We walked to Starbucks and it was painful. My left foot was tingling and I had pins and needles in it. It wasn’t fun.
I was glad to be sitting in Starbucks. We stayed for about 30 minutes and then walked to the river before heading back to the hotel.
We went to the metro and went back to Amate and went to the supermarket to get some food for back at the hotel.
Despite the awful temperatures, today has been a good day.

Below are some pics from today
We didn’t check out of the hotel until 12:00 as we didn’t have much we needed to do and the flight was in the evening.
I didn’t really want to walk around carrying my backpack in the heat – that wouldn’t have made for a fun time at all.
We left and got the metro to where Starbucks is and sat there for a little bit. We were both feeling hungry, so we left here and went to Burger King to have some food and get some more cold air.
We left here and then went to get some ice cream for Ken. After we did that, we decided to just get an Uber to the airport. We had to wait 20 minutes for it. I was so irritated because of the heat, though. The car couldn’t come quick enough.
We got to the airport and then went through security. It was fairly quick, too. No secondary screening here either.
We went through duty-free and I went to buy a bottle of water. The worker there just took my boarding pass and the bottle out of my hand and started scanning it. That annoyed me. I didn’t need – nor did I ask for – their help. I just walked off and then got some from the vending machines there.
We sat and charged our phones. I then remembered we had to go through passport control still and it said our gate was a 15-minute walk away (it wasn’t). We went to passport control and then to the gate.
We boarded and, thankfully, our bags weren’t checked and we got on. I found my middle seat and sat there hoping it would be a comfortable flight.
It was fine and I didn’t feel squished. We landed in Gatwick and I was so happy to get some food and then head home.
On the way back, there was a road closure on the M11, so we had to do a detour – which wasn’t fun as my bowels were ready to be emptied.
I got home and went straight to log in so I could start my shift.
Seville is a really pretty city and both of us said we would like to go back there at some point.
