Back in February I was supposed to go to Chișinău (pronounce Kishinow) but the airline messed around with the flights and I would have gotten only about 14 hours here if I had done it the way they had wanted instead of the 4 days I was planning.

I had pretty much given up on coming here until I saw some flights and I decided I would book them.

I booked them and then messaged the hostel to see if they had availability. They did and I was glad of that.

The day came to leave and it was an early start for me. I had to be up at 05:45 to shower and get ready since the train was at 07:13.

I went and got myself some breakfast and then went to the platform and got the train to the airport.

I went to the queue for security and it took about 35 minutes to get through. One of the belts appeared to have broken, so there was only one belt open in the area I was in. After about 20 minutes, the other one opened and the queue started to move quicker.

I had to have my shoes screened and something was being picked up on them. They came back fine. My backpack was selected for extra screening, but they took a look at the monitor and handed it back to me. Very weird.

I made my way to WHS to get my meal deals and then headed to the gate. Thankfully, the gate had been assigned before I left home.

I had never been to these gates before. This satellite terminal was way better than the others. I think mostly because this is the one that Emirates uses. We even got to use a jet bridge at Stansted. I don’t think I have ever had that happen before.

The flight was fully booked and it was a little uncomfortable. FlyOne is a really weird airline. During taxi/take-off/landing, you are not allowed to wear headphones and they make you take them out. So weird.

Part way through the flight we didpass through some pretty bad turbulence. Even the cabin crew were told to sit for it. It lasted about 5 minutes – but that was 5 minutes too much for me!

We landed and we had to get a bus to the terminal. Why they didn’t let us walk I don’t know as it would have been quicker and easier. Oh well, them’s the rules.

I was one of the first at passport control. I was asked where I had come from and I told them London. They stamped my passport and sent me on my way.

  • I want to find an ATM at the airport to get some local currency so I could pay for the hostel and the trip to Transnistria. They charged £4 for the withdrawal so I decided to leave it and I just booked a taxi. As I was walking out, there were so many people there offering taxi’s. It gets a little overwhelming constantly having to say no.

I got in the taxi and it was a 40-minute ride to the hostel. I got out and had a quick look at the pictures the hostel sent me and I found where I needed to be. I also saw that there was an ATM across the road. I went and checked in and then put my stuff in the room and said I would go to the ATM and come back with the money. They said they would give me a map and recommendations of what to do once I was back.

Truth be told, I was just after some loose recommendations. They did that.

I went to the room to charge my phone and then I remembered I wanted to go get some souvenirs. I got ready and then went to go get them. It was a nice walk to the store. It was really warm though.

From what I have seen so far, it is a really nice city.

After I had bought what I needed I noticed that I didn’t have the key for the hostel and I started to panic. I made my way back to the hostel and I was hoping the entire time that the key was there.

I got back and looked on the bed and it was under a bag. I remember just getting up quick when I remembered I wanted souvenirs.

I decided to head to the supermarket to get some water. It was a nice walk. I then headed back to the hostel but decided to take the long way round. I was looking for places to visit on the days I am here and I have found a couple of places that I want to go back to.

I have had a good few hours here so far.

I got a message from the hostel to say that the Transnistria tour was a going to go ahead tomorrow instead of Thursday. I am waiting to find out when I need to be ready. I am super tired and I hope they answer fast.

Below are some pics from today

Today wasn’t as early of a start thankfully. I was tired and didn’t sleep too well since it was so hot in the hostel during the night.

I was glad I had packed last night, as I sure as hell couldn’t be bothered to do it this morning.

I got everything together and said my goodbyes and checked out. I booked a taxi to the airport. Emre said yesterday the buses don’t have AC and I didn’t want to sit for 45 minutes in sweltering heat.

The taxi didn’t have the AC working so I had to have the window down. It was fine though because the breeze from outside was keeping me cool.

I got to the airport and then went to security and I was getting concerned because I saw everyone had paper boarding passes. I didn’t have one. I got to passport control and they accepted my mobile boarding pass thankfully.

He checked my passport and stamped it and then decided to get his magnifying glass and check some of the stamps. I wanted to ask, but I just wanted to be through so I could go and wait.

I went and sat upstairs with a muffin and a drink. I was there for about an hour and then I went down to departures. I got some water and then sat and waited at the gate.

It came time to board and I got to the gate and they gave me a paper boarding pass and then tagged my bags. Not sure why they needed to though since I was going to be heading to the plane.

We got on the bus and we were on there for about 25 minutes. We got to the plane and we were on the bus for another 10 minutes. Someone shouted at the driver to open the door because of how hot it was. I stepped off and I was told to get back on the bus.

They let us off the bus and we had to wait at the bottom of the stairs for another 20 minutes. Some dumb woman and her kid pushed right at the front and was complaining that I wasn’t moving. I’m sorry, but you don’t just push in – even if you do have kids. You and your kids are not my problem and you don’t deserve to push in.

They finally let us go up the stairs and I made sure that the other woman with the rude woman and her kid didn’t get up the stairs before me.

I went to my seat and saw it was the exit row. It was so nice. More legroom and no bags allowed under my feet. Result.

The plane was a 25-year-old plane and you could tell it was too. We were an hour late leaving. I was concerned that I wouldn’t get to the train in time at Stansted.

The flight was awful. It was so creaky on the climb and it sounded like it could fall apart at any minute.

The descent into Stansted was just as bad. There was also water coming in the window as we were descending. I wasn’t impressed with the flight that’s for sure and the airline are not a good airline.

I got up and we left by the front door. Some guy in the row in front decided to push himself out and stopped me from getting past. I told him to move so we could leave.

I got to the transit and we got to passport control. I was so happy to see that it was empty and I was through in about 5 minutes. It gave me time to get something to eat and drink and then go down to the train. I got to the train with about 7 minutes before it was due to leave.

Moldova was a really nice visit. I loved it. I loved going to Transnistria too.
