I was supposed to be going to Moldova this week but the airline had changed my flight without telling me and it would have only given me a few days there instead of the 6 days that I had originally planned.
I figured since they changed it I would get my money back and that I would spend the week at home and just relax.
I decided on the Monday evening I would have a look at Ryanair to see if they had a sale on. They didn’t but I saw some flights to Poznan. I decided I would book them and go to Poland. It has been nearly 6 years since I was last in Poznan. You can read about that here.
The flight left on the Tuesday morning and came back on Thursday evening. It was a really spontaneous purchase and I was glad I saw them. I always love going to Poland. I had wanted to go to Poznan again for a while but never could find prices I wanted to pay.
I looked for a hostel and the cheapest I could find was actually a private room in the hostel.
I got to Poznan and then got the bus from the airport to the city centre. I thought I knew where I was going from when I got off the bus but it turns out I was all turned around. I doubted myself on the direction I was walking. I looked at the map and I was all turned around as the map didn’t seem to be orientating properly. I should have just trusted my sense of direction and went the way I was walking anyway.
I thought I would just walk to the hostel. I got to the tram stop at Zamek and decided to get the tram. I was feeling cold and needed the toilet so I tram would be quicker.
I got to the address of the hostel but couldn’t see it. I was at the number of the hostel and someone asked if they could help. I showed him where I needed and he pointed me round the corner to it. I was really close to it.

After checking in at the hostel I decided that I would put my phone on a quick charge and then head out and just walk around. I had no plan of where I was going to go so I just decided I would walk around and see where my feet would take me.
I looked for a Żabka so I could get a hotdog and get some Prince Polo XXL wafers and a drink.
I walked in the direction of the Old Town and it was about 15:00. I saw a lot of people gathered around the tower in the square. I wasn’t sure what they were looking at so I decided to just hang around. I figured there must be something happening with the clock at 15:00 (or possibly the top of every hour).
It turns out the clocked chimed and then there was a person who played a trumpet on all 4 corners.
I stayed here for a couple of minutes listening to it and then I went and got the obligatory souvenirs.
I started walking towards Matki Basilica and as I did I came across a Żabka and went in and got the hot dog and sweets and a drink. A hotdog from Żabka is usually my first stop when I get to Poland.
I then carried on walking to parts of the city I hadn’t been to last time I was here.
I was messaging Ken when I was and I was telling him I was feeling sick and then showed him a picture of the hot dog and told him I was feeling better after that. I hadn’t told him I was in Poland until this point.
I carried on walking and then went into some of the churches I came across.
I then carried on walking out of the Old Town and towards some of the places I had seen last time.
I then decided to jump on the tram and go for a ride to the end of the line and take some pictures and videos. I enjoy riding around on the trams where I go. I get to scout out places I want to go back to.
I then decided I would go to McD’s for some food and then just head back in the direction of the hostel.
I didn’t have a lot of time to be out today as I got in about 14:30 and the sun set about 17:00.

Today was the day to leave. Thankfully packing didn’t take too long because of how short of a time I had here.
I got up at about 10 and then showered and got ready. I checked out and went to get the tram to meet the bus for the airport.
I got to the airport a couple of hours before the flight. I just wanted to get through security and passport control so I could just relax before the flight.
It came time to queue to board and they asked to see my carry-on. I was worried they were going to say it was too big. Thankfully they didn’t.
The flight back was fine. Nothing noteworthy. I got back to Stansted and got back across the border really quick and then had about 90 minutes to wait for the train.
All in all, Poznan was a great trip. Poland is amazing as always. If you haven’t been, you definitely should go.
